Stump grinding vs. stump removal

Grinding takes the stump down below ground level and leaves the deeper roots to break down naturally. It is faster, cheaper and does not tear up your yard. Full removal digs out the stump and root ball. It is only needed when you are building or pouring concrete right where the stump is. Most homeowners only need grinding.

What happens to the wood chips?

We can leave the chips as mulch, or rake them up and haul them away. Tell us which you prefer when we quote the job.

Stump grinding FAQ

How long does it take?

Most stumps take 15 minutes to an hour. A large oak stump can take longer.

Can you grind the stump the same day you remove the tree?

Yes. Most customers have us grind the stump right after the tree removal.

Will the stump grow back?

Most stumps will not regrow once they are ground. Some trees can push up a few sprouts from the remaining roots, which can usually be mowed down.
